A honk is a sound. It’s also a word when you write it down, and as a word, it has a sound and a meaning. In this case, its meaning is its sound. That makes it an onomatopoeia, which is a word that sounds like what it means.
That’s question one answered. Question two, how does it help you be happy, is harder to pin down because it depends rather a lot on your perception. So I’m going to tell you how it helps make me happy. It might make someone else furious because they think it’s just totally stupid and they hate everything that’s totally stupid, so if you want a honk to help you be happy, you have to let it by being open minded.
Honks help me be happy by
- Giving me a relaxing vowel to sing, one that encourages openness and warm heartedness,
- Reminding me to keep a sense of humour,
- Helping me get rid of negative thoughts and emotions
I guess the first two points don’t need an explanation, but you might wonder how a honk helps get rid of negative thoughts and emotions. The answer is simple, it’s a meditation. Have a look at the instructions…
Allow the sound to come out naturally on your breath, enjoy the sound of your voice and imagine that the whole world honks with you in peace, harmony and love. Relax in that experience, merge with the honk and be at one with the sound. Let your mind soar.
While you’re focusing on that, where are those thoughts and emotions? Gone.
Could honking could help you be happy, or do you think it’s just plain weird? Are you wondering if I’m serious? Do you have a song that does the same thing?
Listen to a honk here.

I like the ‘honk’ from the tiny horn in the movie the ‘mask’ that ends up being a little bit of overkill. It makes me smile anyway…
You definitely over do a honk, if its of the loud and raucous kind.
