For thousands of years, in all human cultures, stories have not only been a way of entertaining people but also a way of passing on wisdom. Story telling is a powerful way to help us remember or become aware of wisdom.
A novel, a film or a television show can reach billions of people. What if such popular fiction retained its function as a way of passing on wisdom? Wouldn’t that have a positive affect on the world? And wouldn’t this be a great way of passing wisdom on to those who would never seek it out and to young people in particular?
I think so, and that’s why I’ve created the Wisdom in Fiction project to promote fiction like mine where the wisdom is not dogma, or something added in for the sake of it, but an integral part of the story, perhaps a character’s worldview and/or an analogy. For example, if I have meditation instructions in a story it’s because a character needs them in order to fulfil a task. Please let me know of any such fiction that you think should be promoted. Only professionally written and produced books will be considered.
My motivation for everything I write is to bring benefit to all beings, but for my writing, and others that promote a healthy world view, to reach all beings (or even a million or a 100 of them) we need help.
